IBX System now available

posted 21 Apr 2014, 08:05 by Sam Beesley

This innovative two-part system offers revolutionary benefits:

Under Gel Polish

  • Creates a protective shield for the nail
  • Reduces white spots that tend to occur with the use of Gel Polish

As a Natural Nail Growth Treatment

  • IBX Repair is used to repair severe nail damage to set the stage for growth
  • IBX toughens the upper layers of the nail plate allowing nail growth
  • With multiple treatments fills up deep grooves resulting in a smoother nail plate
  • Natural nail colour and appearance improved

IBX Repair is step one for natural nail growth:

  • IBX REPAIR is applied specifically to targeted damaged areas including splits, peeling and free edge delamination.
  • Acts like “double-sided sticky tape” to seal damaged areas together.

IBX is step two for natural nail growth:

  • It completes the formation of the IPN within the nail plate.
  • It toughens the nail plate by fusing together the upper layers, providing strength and protection.
  • A full coat is always applied, whether for Gel Polish protection or to grow natural nails.

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Bio sculpture Gel has treatment gels that cater for different nail types allowing many ladies to wear the gel successfully on their nails during chemotherapy.  Bio Sculpture Gel has protected their nails and kept them well groomed.  They recommend using the soft flexible gels as these are best suited to damaged and sensitive nails.

TIPS ON TAKING CARE OF YOUR NAILS DURING CHEMOTHERAPY

Just as chemotherapy affects your hair because of the rapidly dividing hair follicle cells, it also affects your nails.  You may see brown lines on your nails or even multiple lines and indentations reflecting the different cycles of chemotherapy, this will grow out within 6 months in most cases.  Your nails may also become pigmented, brittle or discoloured, so they won't grow as long as they used to and may break more easily.

The area around the nail bed may become dry and your cuticles may fray.  Don't rip or peel off the loose cuticle.  Cut them carefully with a CLEAN pair of nail scissors.

In extreme cases the nail may actually lift off the nail bed.  While this, too, is reversible, you need to be very careful for two reasons.  Firstly, the nail is more vulnerable and may fall off.  Secondly, because the nail is not tightly bound to the nail bed, it can become a site for bacteria to enter.  So be sure to practice excellent hygiene to avoid infection.

Nail care is the first-line of prevention for lymphedema, a condition that develops when lymph fluid accumulates in the soft tissues of the arm causing it to swell.  If you have had an underarm lymph node dissection (with mastectomy or lumpectomy), you should be particularly careful of damage to the nail, such as hangnails or cuts and burns on the hands.

TIPS FOR BETTER NAIL CARE

  • Keep your nails short
  • Don't cut your cuticles.  Use cuticle remover and push your cuticles back gently
  • Don't bite your nails or cuticles, particularly on the hand that is on the same side as your affected breast
  • Massage cuticle cream or oil into the cuticle area and nails to prevent dryness, splitting and hang nails.  This is best done before going to bed, when you are not washing your hands so often
  • Wear gloves while doing chores, such as washing dishes.  Excessive exposure to water can lead to fungal infections of the nail bed
  • Wear nail polish to help keep nails strong and protected from the environment and looking attractive
  • If your nails are very dry or falling off, you might want to consider a nail moisturiser instead of polish
  • Dry nails can become weaker or more brittle during chemotherapy treatment.  to remove nail polish, use non-acetone based remover which is less drying than acetone
  • It is recommended not to use acrylics or other nail wraps that can cause damage.  Fake nails can trap bacteria that may cause infection (see note below on using Bio Sculpture Gel)
  • Alert your doctor to any signs of inflammation or infection

BIO SCULPTURE NAIL TREATMENTS

  • Cuticle Conditioner is an intense conditioning treatment
  • Cuticle Remover is used to soften and lift stubborn skin on the nail and around the cuticle area
  • Cuticle Oil is used to re-hydrate the cuticle and nail plate
  • Cuticle Cream is massaged into the cuticle area softening and nourishing the cuticles and skin around the nails preventing dehydration and cracking of cuticles
  • High Gloss Topcoat is fast drying and protects and will protect nail polish or gel
  • Lavender Base is enriched with lavender essential oil and the ideal treatment to aid with moisturising and softening dry, brittle and flaky nails
  • Executive Base is a nail strengthener for soft nails but is not suitable for flaky or brittle nails.  Best used as a base coat under nail polish
  • Vitamin Dose is an infused vitamin treatment that will revitalise and rejuvenate nails to stimulate healthy nail growth
  • Hand Cream nourish and regenerate skin cells leaving hands moisturised, soft and silky
